Prayer for the First Sunday of Lent

Lord Jesus, You entered the wilderness, hungry and alone, yet You stood firm against every temptation. When the enemy whispered lies, You answered with the truth of God’s Word. In this season of Lent, teach us to trust the Father’s provision, to seek His will above our own desires, and to worship Him with undivided hearts. When we feel weary or tested, remind us that we are never abandoned— Your Spirit walks with us, and Your victory is our hope. Strengthen us to turn away from what draws us from You, to walk faithfully in Your light, until we share in the joy of Your resurrection.

Amen.

Prayer for the sick

We pray for those who are sick and who ask for our prayers:

Patrick, Mike, Joan C, Emma, Neil, Joan L, Brenda, John and Elizabeth L'E.

We also remember silently in our hearts:

Rest in peace

We remember those who have died recently and pray for their families at this sad time. Gerald Barnes

We shall be using the Church of England’s recommended booklet ‘Draw Near’ available from Eden Books @ £2.69 for a single copy. At Holy Cross, the discussion group will start on Wednesday 25th February at 7.30 pm, when we will have the first week of daily readings to discuss. At St John’s the start will be on Thursday 26th February at 11 am. Sign up on list at back of church.

Generosity Review at Holy Cross

The Holy Cross PCC is looking at financial donations and, as part of a nationwide CofE project "Cornerstone", would like to gather the views of those who give to the church. If you do give money to the church, even if on an occasional basis, we should be very grateful if you would find a few minutes to complete the attached multiple choice questionnaire. Please return to Mike Coeshott at mikejcoe@aol.com

If you prefer, you can also complete an online version

Please note:

  • 1 The questionnaire asks for a code, which is 629126

  • 2 The survey is treated anonymously. You do NOT need to fill in your name.

  • 3 The deadline for responses is Sunday 1st March, although earlier returns very welcome.
